Vacation!

A view from the top deck overlooking the marsh and Pamlico Sound...so peaceful
Yes, I have been on a vacation. A real one to Ocracoke Island as well as a vacation from stitching. Though the stitching is always close by, sadly to say I just haven't felt the urge to stitch. I started to get the itch to knit but I suppressed it since I didn't feel like spending money on yarn. Here is a pic of my current WIP which by all rights should have been finished by now!
Simply Live in memory of Lisa Roswell
Our vacation on Ocracoke was wonderful! It's an island just south of Hatteras Island on the Outer Banks. Beautiful unspoiled beaches, a lovely old town without all the hoopla you find at some other vacation spots (no mini-golf or amusement parks). We loved the house we stayed in. It was very close to the beach (no homes are built on the beaches there) and just a bike ride or walk to town. The mosquitoes were a little pesky though and my daughter attracts them like ants are attracted to sugar. Poor girl. I'd have one bite and she would have 10. We went to the beach every day and managed not to get sunburned, not even tan for that matter!
The blooming Oleander in front of our house
One reason I chose this house...the wonderful artwork!
I love the pelicans perched on these pilings
Ocracoke Lighthouse...so charming
Unspoiled beaches
Crossing paths with a ferry, the only way to get to Ocracoke
Cape Hatteras Lighhuse
Claire atop the Hatteras Lighthouse being joyful!

Wow, it looks like you had an incredible vacation! I love the lighthouses. Great progress on your memorial piece. Even a little bit is a step in the right direction. :)

So glad you had such a great vacation, Barb! We've gone to the Outer Banks each year with my husband's whole family for the past 27 years. I'm sure it was cooler now than when we're there in late July/early August; it is just sweltering. We took a one day side-trip to Okracoke a few years ago--very charming...

Had to laugh when reading about Claire being a target for the mosquitoes. Isn't it funny how they seem to prefer one person over another. My youngest son would look like he had chicken pox he'd get bitten so much--and they would swell up to the size of nickels! And the other guys would just have a bite here or there--very strange.

Glad you're home safely and your stitching is looking so pretty--I love its message, too :)

What a great place to spend your vacation.

I am in the same stitching slump you are.

I'm not familiar with this area but it sure looks like a wonderful vacation spot. The lighthouses remind me of our trip to Prince Edward Island.
Love your WIP! I have this one all kitted up and ready to go but haven't had the time to get started on it yet.

We discovered Ocracoke last year and whenever I ask my hubby what he wants to do this weekend, go to Ocracoke is the answer. I'd agree except it's awfully long ride from here.
